HR’s New Virtual Library Aims to Help UH Employees

virtual-services.jpgHuman Resources has unveiled a new virtual library for benefits-eligible employees designed to offer mini-courses on various topics that interest staff.

The virtual library has been strategized and planned for some time and ramped up over the past six months before its unveiling on the HR website.

Once on the Staff Library page, employees will see nine tiles, Recruitment, Employee Relations, Benefits & Wellness, Virtual Lunch & Learn, Policy Overview, HR Service Center, Auxiliary Training, Leadership, and Executive Leadership, with each tile containing instructional videos behind them.

HR chose these categories because it’s a good template for what services the department provides.

Mia Thomas, Human Resources Learning Technology Specialist, said HR wanted to showcase HR in a visual light. Typically, when HR holds training, it uses PowerPoint, but having the videos allows the department to spruce up the training materials.

The videos were made using Synthesia, an AI video-generated program, and will also serve to answer employees' frequently asked questions.

HR will still be able to answer questions from employees, but Thomas said employees can view these videos and, more often than not, find the answer to their questions.

While the Staff Virtual Library is in its infancy, the department has received positive feedback on this service and looks forward to receiving more.
